Peepal Tree Sapling from Bodh Gaya to grow in Siem Reap

On February 16, 2026, the Honorary Consul of Cambodia in Bangalore, India presented the holy Peepal Tree sapling from Bodh Gaya to the Honorable Deputy Governor of the Provincial of Siem Reap, H.E. Mr. Ngouv Sengkak, which is expected to stand as a testament of closer and stronger Cultural and Historical ties between the two countries. The sapling is expected to blossom in the gardens of the Provincial Hall of the Deputy Governor and its growth will be regularly monitored.

Meeting with Her Excellency CHRING Botum Rangsay, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation

On the afternoon of 18 February 2026, Her Excellency CHRING Botum Rangsay, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, received a courtesy call from Mr. Karthik Tallam, Honorary Consul of Cambodia in Bengaluru, India, at the Ministry. Both sides expressed their satisfaction with the excellent relations between Cambodia and India, and discussed ways to further strengthen cooperation between the two countries, recognizing India as a key strategic partner for Cambodia, particularly in promoting investment, trade, and tourism, which offer strong scope for further growth.

Meeting with Minister of Tourism

The Honorary Consul met with H.E. Mr. HUOT Hak, Minister of Tourism to discuss direct flight connection between Siem Reap Province and Bangalore. Cambodia is looking into enabling direct flights between Siem Reap and Bangalore city, intended to take this an opportunity for the business and tourism sectors of both countries while offering visitors from that region of India a direct route to Siem Reap and the Angkor Archeological Park

Meeting with Mr Samheng Boros

At the Prime Minister’s office of Cambodia , with His Excellency Samheng Boros, a Cambodian politician and a Minister attached to the Prime Minister. He previously served as a Secretary of State of Ministry of Social Affairs, Veterans and Youth Rehabilitation (2018–2022). In June 2022, he was appointed as the Minister at a young age. The meeting with H E Karthik Tallam , Honorary Consul of Cambodia was focussed on how the largest Indian Companies can enter Cambodia and that the Prime Minister’s office will be ready to support in every possible way . He recalled his talks with the Adani Group who made several visited to Cambodia to co operate on a Port project . He also recalled the 8 Member Official delegation from Bangalore who are spearheading the Bengaluru - Siem Reap Sister City Collaboration. The young Politician with many talents and achievements has expressed keen interest in visiting India with a group of Investors from Cambodia to India and also invite Investors from India to Cambodia . He will make his trip to India in the near future . Also accompanied by Mr Walter Dantis who is a part Indian Chamber of Commerce and IBCC.

Honorary Consul met with Secretary of Tourism, Government of Karnataka and discussed furthering tourism between Karnataka and Cambodia

Honorary Consul met Film Director and Producer Kiruthiga Udhayanidhi

Honorary Consul met with noted Film Director and Producer Ms. Kiruthiga Udhayanidhi, who is also the wife of Udhayanidhi Stalin, Deputy Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. Their conversation journeyed through history, analysing the deep ancient cultural connections between India and Southeast Asia through the lens of the great Tamil dynasties.

Cambodia finds itself as one of the most remarkable examples of this cultural exchange. They reflected on Angkor War as a powerful symbol of these shared influences and connections. They also discussed the linguistic link between the Khmer Script and South India's Pallava script.

They noted the cinematic potential in bringing such remarkable historical narratives to a wider audience.

It is a matter of great pride that two distinguished Bengaluru-based Honorary Consuls were recognized at the Diplomatic Excellence Awards 2026 for ASEAN, organized by Asia One and held at the prestigious JW Marriott Hotel Kuala Lumpur.

H.E. Karthik Tallam, Honorary Consul General of Cambodia, and H.E. Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, Honorary Consul of Ireland, were honored for their outstanding contributions to strengthening international relations, fostering economic and cultural cooperation, and advancing diplomatic engagement across borders.

  This recognition reflects the growing role of Honorary Consuls in building bridges between nations, facilitating trade and investment opportunities, promoting people-to-people connections, and supporting meaningful collaboration between countries and communities.
